This notice describes the current Wordstep website. Live advertisements and analytics are not enabled. We will update this notice and configure the appropriate consent choices before activating advertising.
What the game saves
Wordstep uses your browser’s local storage to remember puzzle identifiers, word chains, hints, completion times, and the current practice puzzle. These records are used to resume play and display your results. The game does not send them to a server.
Saved progress remains until you clear it, your browser removes site data, or an incompatible save must be reset. It is specific to the browser and website address you use. Private browsing, storage restrictions, or switching devices can prevent recovery.
To remove it, close other Wordstep game tabs first, then use the control below. Otherwise an open game may save its current chain again. Clearing data cannot be undone and affects this browser only. You can also remove this site’s data through your browser settings.
What is sent when you visit
Wordstep is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Your browser requests the site’s pages and files from Cloudflare. Delivering those requests involves connection information such as your IP address, the requested address, and browser details. Cloudflare processes request information for delivery, security, and operational purposes. Read Cloudflare’s privacy policy for its handling of visitor data and retention practices.
The game has no account system, analytics service, remote dictionary lookup, or third-party font requests. Game progress stays in your browser. The clear-progress control removes saved game data; it does not clear cookies that may be set by the hosting service.
Sharing and contacting us
Sharing starts only when you press Share your result. Your result includes the difficulty, puzzle date or Practice label, moves, minimum, and hint count. It omits the solution words. Your device may show a sharing menu, or the game may copy the result to your clipboard. The app you choose to share through has its own privacy practices.
If you email us, your email provider and ours handle that message. We receive the address and information you choose to include so we can respond. Please send only what is needed for your question.
Advertising status
The current version reserves space for future advertising and identifies our AdSense publisher account for site verification. It does not load Google’s ad script, request ads, or set advertising cookies. A verification tag and ads.txt file are not advertising consent.
If we enable Google advertising, this page will explain Google and other vendors’ cookie use, the relevant data sharing, and your choices. Where required, consent will be requested before the relevant advertising storage or processing.
